Project Description

How to exercise when in bed (Care Bed)

When at home for a long period before being admitted to a care home – many people loose a lot of muscles that could have helped making the last years of life easier.

Thousands of dollars are used to lift people from care beds – and this for every individual – that if at all possible would rather walk by himself.

A normal day at a nursing home. The following tasks are often performed by two Care Givers.

  1. Out of bed in the morning (Two employees 10 minutes = 20 min)
  2. To the toilet (Two employees 10 minutes = 20 min)
  3. Off the toilet (Two employees 10 minutes = 20 min)
  4. In bed after lunch (Two employees 10 minutes = 20 min)
  5. Out of the bed after lunch (Two employees 10 minutes = 20 min)
  6. To the toilet (Two employees 10 minutes = 20 min)
  7. Off the toilet (Two employees 10 minutes = 20 min)
  8. In bed at night (Two employees 10 minutes = 20 min)

This movement is usually performed with a disability hoist, if the person cannot walk.

If the patient is able to stand os the feet – the patient is far easier to move from bed to toilet – to rollator, assisted by a care giver. If this can be acheived  then many hours can be saved – Every day! – for many patients !

By using this affordable bedcycle, there is a fair chance that the elderly that have a temporary loss of mobility due to e.g. short term bed stay – can regain “just enough” muscles to be able to walk assisted by a caregiver to the toilet and in bed without help from two caregivers.

A total spending of caregivers time of almost 3 hours per day per person, per day – 365 days a year. around- total of 1.000 hours per year – per patient ! If you pay less than 1.3 dollars an hour for caregivers the payback time is one year !

– This saving is within reach if just one person can avoid being hoisted for 1 year.

If you pay approximately 15 dollars an hour, the payback time is 1 month ! – still for one person…
